Cedar Hill State Park, Mountain Bike Trail in Dallas Texas

Cedar Hill State Park is one of the oldest trails in the DORBA trail system and is a fun beginner to intermediate level trail located about midway between Dallas and Fort Worth.

I’ve heard it sometimes referred to as the runway because this trail is smooth, flat and fast. Similar in nature to L.B. Houston Nature Preserve, but more challenging. The trail features very well banked turns similar to a bobsled in some places, well worn from its many years of riders. There are some tricky off camber roots in a few places but nothing that a confident mountain biker should have trouble with.

Like most of our North Texas trails there are a lot of switchbacks and open fields to ride through. During the summer it gets very hot because the trail is so open.

The biggest challenge to the CHSP trail is usually the dry and loose dirt, especially during a Texas summer. If you’re looking for a technical challenge then skip Cedar Hill State Park and head just 6 miles away to Big Cedar Wilderness Trail. Cedar Hill State Park is a wonderful trail for a fast aerobic workout or for beginner and intermediate riders to build skills.

The trail is up to 12 miles long and consists of 3 loops. The “Outer” loop is 12 miles long, the “Middle” loop is 8 miles and the “Short” loop is only 3 miles long. If you ride all of the Outer loop you will ride all of both the Middle and Short loops as well.
