Ride Recap 9/26/11, River Legacy

Tonight was perfect for a quick mountain bike ride. My wedding is only 12 days away (holy crap!) and I needed a little time in the trees after work tonight. Since River Legacy is only about 9 miles from my Bedford office I decided this morning to take full advantage of it.

River Legacy is in tremendous shape after the rain we got in the prior weeks. I rode the trail for the first time about one month ago and it wasn’t looking great. The soil then was cracked and brittle making some of the hard cornering a little more difficult. Today the trail was smooth and the flow was excellent. I had “OldJackBob” a River Legacy regular lead me through the best portion of the trail, EKG. I sincerely appreciated his lead through this portion of the trail and all of the knowledge he has and gives out freely.

Check out this video of him teaching a group how to make the most difficult turn at River Legacy.

What is it with critters on our trails though, I swear they always pick the mostĀ inopportuneĀ places to hide out. I had a very close encounter with a monster armadillo on the tail end of EKG. Other than that it was just a fast fun ride, I always enjoy the plethora of dips that River Legacy has. It would have been nice to spend more time playing in Fun Town, but with the sun setting fast I pumped it into overdrive and hauled my butt back home.

This was a really fun ride and I am so glad that this trail is so close to me. I’m going to be awful sad when it starts getting dark at 5:30 and I’m no longer able to go for these quick post work mountain bike rides.
